About

Effective January 28, 2021, Mutual Fund Representatives and those supervising them across Canada (as per regulatory blanket orders for each province with the exception of Newfoundland and Labrador) will be able to satisfy the proficiency requirements for dealing or supervising in Alternative Mutual Funds (aka Liquid Alts) by completion of CSI’s Hedge Funds and Liquid Alternative for Mutual Fund Representative Course.

Alternative Mutual Funds, relative to regular mutual funds, are allowed greater use of leverage and increased flexibility to short-sell and use derivatives (among other things). Unlike Hedge Funds, they can be sold to retail investors. The Hedge Funds and Liquid Alternatives For Mutual Fund Representatives course is designed to provide learners with the features, benefits, and risks of alternative strategies. The course will also cover the differences between the two main structures within which to access these strategies: Exempt Market Alternative Funds (i.e. Hedge Funds) and Alternative Mutual Funds. This course has been designed for licensed Mutual Fund Representatives to meet MFDA proficiency standards. This course also has multi-jurisdictional CE accreditations for professional development.

Who should enrol?

This online course is designed for licensed Mutual Fund Representatives who are planning on dealing in Alternative Mutual Funds with retail clients. It is also recommended for supervisors of all sales staff selling this investment product. As the course has multi-jurisdictional continuing education accreditation it will also be of interest to those seeking CE credits.
