Why Choose an MTI® Holder?

With affluence comes many complex considerations. For those approaching or in retirement, one of the biggest considerations is how their wealth and legacy will be passed on. The expertise required to manage trusts and estates cannot be underestimated.

The MTI® Estate and Trust Professional (MTI®) designation is Canada’s premier credential for estate and trust management. It ensures that those who earn the MTI® letters are experts in trust and estate regulation, and the tax implications that are characteristic of the management and transfer of wealth.

Those who choose to work with an MTI® can feel confident that their wealth is being effectively protected, invested and distributed. Not only do MTI®s provide clients with specialized service and financial advice, but they are also held to high professional standards. They are required to abide by a Code of Ethics and fulfil maintenance requirements to make sure they always bring their best to the table.

What is the MTI® Competency Profile?

The MTI® Professional Competency Profile provides an overview of the responsibilities, skills, and knowledge unique to someone who holds the MTI® designation. It is the foundational document for the Estate & Trust Professional (MTI®) designation that describes the required competencies (i.e., the knowledge, skills and abilities) of professionals awarded the designation.

The Competency Profile is the defining resource for what a Trust Specialist can and should do in practice. It is used to set the requirements for the pre-requisite education programs, the work experience component, the MTI® Case Application Examination and continuing education requirements.

As the MTI® designation continues to progress to meet clients’ changing needs, employers and regulators, CSI reviews the Competency Profile every 5 years.
